How do I build my own combination?

Kickstarter only allows you to back one reward at a time, because it is a system that was really designed for crowdfunding, not online retail. So if you can’t find a set that matches your needs, why not build your own?

To add to your pledge, log into Kickstarter, click ‘manage your pledge’ and change the amount pledged to total the amount of the pans you would like, plus $19 shipping for your first pan and $5 shipping per pan thereafter (for US States). If you are outside the USA, please message us for the shipping cost.

For further instructions, CLICK HERE - https://help.kickstarter.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005126814-How-can-I-change-my-pledge-amount-

To back any of the following from our US-ION range, please adjust your pledge by the cost of the item plus shipping:

Iron Love bar = $14.90 (no additional shipping required) 10” Skillet = $89 11” Crepe/Griddle Flat Skillet = $98 12” Skillet = $99 14” BIGGA Skillet = $149

Please then be sure to direct message us with the list of the extra pans you have added in.

Who are you? I have never heard of Solidteknics!

Let us introduce ourselves! This may be the first time you’ve heard of us, but we are not another overnight marketing exercise by crowdfunding hipsters. We’re mechanical engineers who cook, and we’ve spent decades researching a way to make a machine-wrought solid 1-piece iron (or stainless) pan. We found a way, and patented it, then instead of running offshore for max profits like most others, we committed to investing in local Australian and American production.

After multiple successful Kickstarters in Australia, we’ve built our wrought iron pans to #1 in kitchenware retailers, exported them all around the world, and received wide acclaim from chefs and experts for revolutionizing iron cookware: www.solidteknics.com/testify

We hope the cooks of America will embrace our vision for healthy, sustainable, multi-century, locally-made cookware, just like the Aussies have. We can only get there with your support on Kickstarter and social media, which is why we always say, ‘together we’re making history, not just the world’s best cookware!’

Do your skillets work on induction?

YES! Our IRON pans work with any heat source, including induction. Being solid dense sheet iron (not cast) they heat very efficiently, and evenly. They are also safe on any surface, including ceramic/glass tops (with the seasoned layer they’re considerably softer than stainless steel, and not abrasive like enameled cast iron).

They are also perfect in any oven (except microwave!), and also tough enough for camp cooking on open flame…for many generations. Guaranteed.

Why aren't your prices as cheap as other wrought iron?

There’s always cheaper pans somewhere. Like cheaper cars, cheaper clothes, cheaper food.

Have you checked the prices of top pro cookware brands nowadays? Our wrought iron pans start at $59 online through our store (solidteknicsusa.com/shop) and are competitive with French carbon steel pans - the chef standard for centuries - but our US-made pans are far superior in every feature that is important to pro chefs and serious home cooks, for all the reasons given in the Kickstarter.

Cast iron is much cheaper because it is much simpler to produce (pouring molten iron into a sand mold) than the many manufacturing operations involved in forming our patented 1-piece wrought iron pan. In fact, despite poor conductivity and a tendency to crack, cast iron pans became popular (only 150 years ago) because they were cheaper than hand-wrought iron pans (which had been the standard for 2,000 years), in the same way cast gates and railings moved to cast instead of traditional hand wrought.

We’ve simply brought back the superior performance of wrought iron, but with improved modern iron, and machine work the iron with our patented process instead of hand beating it with a hammer. The end result is iron cookware only a little higher in cost, with performance that is clearly superior to cast, for all the reasons the engineers present in our Kickstarter. See a small sample of reviews from chefs and experts at www.solidteknicsusa.com/testify.

It’s a bit like cars: there are many different levels of performance, quality, durability, and price. Cheap/solid ones will get you from A to B, while others choose high performance cars. There’s something for everyone!

Remember, we’re certainly not the most expensive, but we are certainly the highest performance, according to the chefs and experts who’ve cooked with them. Foodservice already love our skillets because they are lighter in weight than traditional cast iron (a big deal all when handling them all day long), but season and cook the same as cast iron. The independent reviews are all over the internet, and the Australian originals are already #1 in that country. We’re newer to the USA, but early indications are that the cooks of America love this new era in wrought iron as much as the cooks of Australia!

One-piece machine-wrought pans should have been made a long time ago, but it isn’t as simple as it looks. It took our mechanical engineers 2+ decades to develop and patent this innovation. It’s a world-first, and our skillets are higher-performance and more durable than other top brands retailing for a similar price. It’s true you can buy cheap imported pans. To match their pricing we would also have to take our designs offshore like (almost) everyone else and have them made with cheap labor and cheap materials. We will NEVER do that. We are committed to manufacturing a world-leading product in the USA from American materials. Most folks are proud we did all the hard work, made the big investment, took the risk, to manufacture this world first in the USA, employing Americans.

Shouldn’t you be too?

QUENCHED, SATIN, SMOOTH AND RAW FINISHES - The differences explained!

The QUENCHED finish is bead blasted as opposed to shot blasted like our SATIN pans. Bead blasting makes the texture much finer and just enough for the oil to grip it when dipped at our factory.

The BIG advantage with the new QUENCHED seasoning system is that no oven seasoning is required - no stripping beeswax from our RAW pans, or oven seasoning our SATIN or SMOOTH skillets - all you need is a little stove top seasoning and cook! Our RAW, SATIN and SMOOTH ranges and most other iron cookware require oven seasoning for best seasoning practice and overall iron care.

Isn't wrought iron extinct?

It’s a common misunderstanding that American-made ‘wrought iron’ is extinct.

It is…in the nostalgic old puddled and hand-wrought form popular a century ago for gates, railings, etc.

But our skillets are much better: real iron, machine wrought ( = worked) into a final seamless skillet shape from flat. Wrought iron, modernized, optimized and revolutionized for a new era in cookware.

Times change, and it’s time for a new definition!

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
